Mashable! - German Billboard Dispenses Dog Food When You Check In on Fou

The problem with food ads is that you can only see the product, but you can't smell or taste it. Until now, that is.

In Germany, a billboard for the GranataPet brand dog food lets consumers (or actually, their dogs) get a sample by checking in via Foursquare. As this video shows, once you check in, dog food comes out of a dispenser at dog level. As detailed, the checkins are noted on a distant server that is connected to a black box in the billboard that controls the dispenser.

As this program demonstrates, social media has given billboards a whole new life. Foursquare has been used in other programs that have interacted with billboards before, including a display in Las Vegas last year that showed checkin data and a program in San Francisco in October that donated $10 to environmental law firm Earthjustice whenever anyone checked in to a dedicated billboard.
