“This acquisition is an important step forward for us,” Twitter CEO Dick Costolo said in a blog post. “TweetDeck provides brands, publishers, marketers and others with a powerful platform to track all the real-time conversations they care about.”
Costolo also made clear that Twitter will “continue to invest” in the development of TweetDeck. Twitter did not disclose the price, but several reports peg the price of the acquisition to be around $40 million.
The social media company has been in a bidding war for TweetDeck for the last few months. Its main competition for TweetDeck was UberMedia, the company that owns Tidroyd, Echofon and UberSocial.
