The funding, first reported by AllThingsD, will help replenish the company’s coffers after its $30 million acquisition of TweetDeck.
Accel’s Jim Breyer will be joining the company’s board of directors. Breyer also sits on Facebook’s board of directors, a situation that could result in interesting questions, opportunities and partnerships, depending on the direction UberMedia takes.
UberMedia was founded by Bill Gross, the founder of GNP Audio Video and Idealab. The company was originally known as TweetUp, an ad platform for Twitter. Once Twitter introduced its own, the company pivoted, changing its name to PostUp, before acquiring UberTwi tter and changing its name again to UberMedia.
The combined entity controls approximately 20% of the tweets in the Twitter ecosystem. What Gross and UberMedia intend to do with all of those assets is anybody’s guess.
