Soundcloud users will now be able to record music while on the go and share it to Tumblr, via the platform’s mobile and desktop apps, or in-browser, as well as auto-publish new tracks to Tumblr. Tumblr users, for their part, will be able to search Soundcloud tracks within Tumblr, or grab URLs from the site to tracks that they want to share.
Before, Tumblr users could only embed Soundcloud waveforms as “Video” posts on the site.
While we’re not saying that this integration will eliminate the need for band websites wholesale — that state of affairs certainly won’t transpire any time soon — such sites have been a bit out-moded for a while now.
Tumblr’s extremely social platform, coupled with easier access to Soundcloud’s increasingly popular music players, could be a wonderful tool for bands to reach new fans. The ability to follow bands, reblog their content (music, especially), and interact with them via Tumblr’s Ask feature make it a great venue to spread awareness of new music.
